Fidelity Investments Canada ULC ("Fidelity", "we", "our", "us") has always been committed to the confidentiality, integrity and security of your personal information. We believe that treating your personal information with the highest degree of respect is integral to our relationship with you.
This privacy policy (“Policy”) describes how Fidelity collects, uses and discloses your personal information when you interact with us. In particular, this Policy applies to investors, advisors or other investment professionals and other individuals who otherwise interact with us, including through our websites or mobile apps on which this Policy appears. This includes individuals who visit fidelity.ca and privatewealth.fidelity.ca, getinvestly.com or our Investly® app (all online Fidelity websites and apps will be referred to in this Policy as “Fidelity Sites”). This Policy does not apply to our handling of the personal information of our employees or job applicants, which is governed by a separate policy.
In this Policy, “personal information” means any information (in any format) about an identifiable individual. This may include your name, contact information, email address, phone number, date of birth, government issued ID, and information relating to your account with us. It may also include more technical information, such as your IP address, browser settings, and device identifier, but only when such information can identify you as an individual. Information that is aggregated or anonymized and cannot be associated with an identifiable individual is not considered personal information.
Summary
Fidelity collects your personal information only as necessary to provide you with products and services and to promote our products and services to you, as well as to meet regulatory and tax requirements, provide electronic delivery of regulatory and operational documents, and for identity authentication and access management purposes.
If you are an advisor who uses the section of fidelity.ca restricted to advisors, we collect your personal information to ensure that we keep you informed of products and services you may be interested in, and for identity authentication and access management purposes.
Your information may be shared with third-party service providers, in confidence, to provide services such as the preparation and mailing of client account statements.
We may also share your information with other Fidelity companies, other financial institutions, and government organizations and, if you are an investor with your advisor or investment professional, if you have one. Where information is shared outside Fidelity, it is on a strictly limited basis to complete transactions on your behalf, to provide you with services or to meet legal obligations, such as tax reporting.
If you are an investor with an advisor or investment professional, we will only share information with that advisor or investor professional that is relevant to your relationship and necessary to provide you with products and services within the context of that relationship.
Your personal information may be stored and processed by Fidelity affiliates and third-party service providers in Canada and abroad.
Fidelity requires that our service providers and affiliates protect your information and only use it for the limited purpose of providing their services to us.
Personal information is collected from our interactions with you. We might interact with you directly, such as when you call or write to us or visit Fidelity Sites, or we might interact with you indirectly, such as if you are an investor with your advisor or investment professional, if you have one. Personal information collected across Fidelity business lines may be used to form a profile of you and your interactions with Fidelity, both in-person and on digital platforms such as the Fidelity Sites or through a service provider, partner or third party, to better serve you with relevant products, services and advertisements.
Your personal information is protected by extensive physical, electronic and procedural controls, and we regularly review these controls to determine whether they need to be adapted to respond to changing requirements and advances in technology.
When accessing our online services, we use a variety of protections designed to maintain the security of your online session. For example, we make extensive use of firewall barriers, encryption techniques and authentication procedures.
When you visit our Fidelity Sites, we may collect technical and navigational information, such as computer browser type, Internet protocol address, pages visited and average time spent on Fidelity Sites.
We use cookies and similar technologies to support the operation of Fidelity Sites, as well as to promote products and services that may be of interest to you. You can refuse or delete cookies or opt-out of promotions.
Fidelity advertises our products and services on websites not affiliated with Fidelity. We do not permit these companies to use information they collect on Fidelity’s behalf for any purpose other than to assist them with advertising Fidelity products and services.
You may request access to your personal information and question its accuracy and completeness. We will respond to your request within 30 days of receiving it.
You may withdraw all or part of your consent for us to use your personal information, within certain legal restrictions. If you withdraw consent, however, we may be limited in the services or products that we provide to you.
Please click on the following questions or topics to obtain more detailed information.

- From advertising partners: We may receive information about you from the digital advertising companies with whom we work (see Targeting or Advertising section below) to help us deliver ads that may interest you across different browsers and devices. This may include pseudonymous advertiser identifiers that digital advertising companies share with us. We may work with our digital advertising company partners to match their identifiers to our own, to enhance data points about a unique browser or device. We may also receive information about you from experience-based partners holding virtual or in-person events that we may sponsor or have a partnership with, when consent is given by you to participate in the event(s) or consume content in connection with the event(s).
- From other sources: We may collect personal information that you provide about your family members and other individuals, such as your legal representative or joint account holder. You are responsible for obtaining consent from these individuals and informing them that their information will be provided to Fidelity. By providing such information to Fidelity, you represent that you have obtained such consent in a manner that is satisfactory to Fidelity.
No matter how we collect your personal information, we try to ensure its accuracy and completeness to the extent required for our use of the information. In order to maintain the accuracy of your information, please make sure we know about any changes as soon as possible.
How do we use your personal information?

The voiceprint will be used to verify your identity when you call us and try to access your accounts or information. We will only use your voiceprint for the purpose of validating your identity on calls. You may withdraw your consent and unenroll from the program at any time by contacting us as indicated below, in which case you will still be able to verify your identity on calls by responding to security questions.

Please note that when the information is disclosed to these entities, they may in turn disclose it to other governmental and regulatory authorities in accordance with their own policies and practices and applicable laws.
Other Third Parties
Fidelity may also share your personal information with certain government entities or other third parties as permitted or required by law, such as where there is reasonable cause to believe your personal information has been compromised and reporting to such an entity may reduce or mitigate the risk of significant harm to you. We may also share your personal information when necessary for a business transaction, including the sale or transfer of all or part of our business to a third party, in accordance with applicable law.
How do we protect your personal information?
We have always considered the protection of personal information to be a foundation of customer trust and a sound business practice. We employ extensive physical, electronic and procedural controls, and we regularly review these controls to determine whether they need to be adapted to respond to changing requirements and advances in technology. Within Fidelity and among our service providers, we aim to restrict access to personal information to those who need it to provide products and services to you.
We implement a combination of security measures to protect your personal information, including:
- Internal policies and procedures that govern the protection of personal information throughout its life cycle. These include policies and procedures that define the roles and responsibilities of our personnel when handling personal information, establish a process for handling complaints about the protection and processing of personal information, and govern the retention and destruction of such information;

The transmission or storage of information via electronic means can be compromised or exposed to unauthorized parties. While Fidelity has taken steps to protect your information, we encourage you to take precautions to ensure your information is kept secure and only transferred to us via secure means.
How long do we keep your personal information?
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide our services to you, to manage our business operations, to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations, to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy or as otherwise required or permitted by law. When your information is no longer needed, we will securely destroy or anonymize it (so that the information can no longer be used to identify you) in accordance with applicable law.
Cross-border Transfers of Personal Information
At times, we may use other Fidelity companies located outside of Canada, including in the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States, to perform data storage and processing services for us, and may use third-party service providers located outside of Canada. This may involve the transfer of your personal information to these entities. In such cases, the information may be subject to the law of that foreign jurisdiction, including any law permitting or requiring disclosure of the information to the government, government agencies, courts and law enforcement in that jurisdiction. In all cases, we require that our service providers protect your information and only use it for the limited purpose of providing their services to us.

Third Party Functionalities
Our Fidelity Sites will from time-to-time use YouTube’s API services in connection with embedding video thumbnail images and descriptions provided by YouTube LLC (“YouTube”). Using YouTube’s offering requires a connection to be established to YouTube’s servers. During this process, certain information is transmitted to YouTube. We do not control the collection, storage or use of any of your information by YouTube and do not have access to any information collected. You should review Google’s and YouTube’s Privacy Policies carefully before you use any YouTube features. Further information about how your data is collected and used by YouTube and your rights in relation to this can be found in YouTube's privacy policy at www.youtube.com.
Targeting or Advertising Through Interest Based Advertising
We participate in various forms of targeted advertising (interest-based advertising) and use third-party analytics and advertising companies to provide you with targeted advertising and offers. Specifically, we permit third-party online advertising networks and services, social media companies and other third-party services, to collect information about your use of Fidelity Sites over time so that they may display advertisements on Fidelity Sites, or on other websites, applications or services that you may use, and other devices that you may use.
Typically, targeting or advertising cookies will be used to deliver advertisements relevant to you. They are also used to limit the number of times you see an advertisement, as well as to help measure the effectiveness of the advertising campaign. Such cookies or tracking technologies may recognize the device you are using and collect click stream information, browser type, time and date or your visit to Fidelity Sites or elsewhere online, and similar information. Targeting cookies are used to:
As part of this, we use several third-party services to help us understand what advertisements you might be interested in. These cookies hold information about your computer, and they might hold a record of what other websites you've looked at, so that we can show you promotions while visiting other websites.
We may also use advertising cookies to link to social media networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter and other widgets. They will use any information about your visit to Fidelity Sites to recognize you, set a cookie or employ other tracking technologies, then deliver targeted advertising to you.
You can opt-out of these cookies at any time by checking your settings with the relevant social media platform or within your browser. Your interactions with these features are governed by the privacy policies of those companies. If you do not want to receive targeted ads on your social networks, you may be able to adjust your advertising preferences; for example:
- Facebook advertising preferences
- LinkedIn advertising preferences
- Instagram advertising preferences
- Twitter advertising preferences
We may also share certain anonymized information with our third-party advertising partners (such as a hashed email address or other anonymized and encrypted “remarketing” lists) to help identify you across sites and across devices and to show you relevant ads, generate similar audiences and to show dynamic ads. As noted above, for social media companies, you can adjust your advertising preferences within the social platforms themselves. The social media companies that interact with our site, and all of the other third-party advertising services that we use, are detailed in the chart that is available at the end of this Policy. We endeavour to keep this chart up to date but may remove or add service providers from time to time. Please contact us if you have any questions about our current services.
We, and our third-party service providers, use cross-device linkage so that the content that you view on one device can result in you receiving relevant advertising on another device, and also to allow us to perform analytics on our products and services and assess the effectiveness of our advertising. We do this by collecting information about each device you use when you visit Fidelity Sites. We may also work with third-party partners who employ tracking technologies, or the application of statistical modelling tools, to determine if two or more devices are linked to a single user and/or household. We may share a common account identifier (such as an email address or user ID) with third-party advertising partners to help recognize you across devices.

The indicated rates of return (other than for each money market fund) are historical annual compounded total returns for the period indicated including changes in unit value and reinvestment distributions. The indicated rate of return for each money market fund is an annualized historical yield based on the seven-day period ended as indicated and annualized in the case of effective yield by compounding the seven-day return and does not represent an actual one-year return. The indicated rates of return do not take into account sales, redemption, distribution or option charges or income taxes payable by any unitholder that would have reduced returns. Mutual funds are not covered by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation or by any other government deposit insurer and are not guaranteed or insured. Their values change frequently. There can be no assurances that any money market fund will be able to maintain its net asset value per unit at a constant amount or that the full amount of your investment will be returned to you. Past performance may not be repeated.
As with any investment, there are risks to investing in mutual funds or pools. There is no assurance that any mutual fund or pool will achieve its investment objective, and its net asset value, yield and investment return will fluctuate from time to time.
Compound growth calculations are used only for the purpose of illustrating the effects of compound growth and are not intended to reflect future values of any mutual fund or returns on investment in any mutual fund.
A return of capital reduces an investor’s adjusted cost base. Capital gains taxes are deferred until units are sold or until their ACB goes below zero. Investors should not confuse this cash-flow distribution with a fund’s rate of return or yield. While investors in Fidelity’s tax-efficient series (T-SWP®) will be able to defer some personal capital gains, they must still pay tax on capital gains distributions. T-SWP will also pay a year-end distribution that must be reinvested in additional securities of the applicable fund.
The monthly cash-flow distributions on T-SWP are not guaranteed will be adjusted from time to time and may include income.
Currency Neutral Funds (Pools) use derivatives to mitigate the fund’s exposure to changes in exchange rates between developed market currencies (or U.S. currency) and the Canadian dollar. The investment approach used by the funds (Pools), while effective in reducing exchange rate risk, will not completely eliminate the impact of currency fluctuations. The funds’ (Pools’) returns will differ from the local currency returns of its underlying funds.
The performance of an index fund is expected to be lower than the index it seeks to track.
Standard deviation is a statistical measure of the range of a fund’s performance. When a fund has a high standard deviation, its range of performance has been very wide, indicating that there is a great potential for volatility than those with low standard deviations.
The breakdown of fund investments is presented to illustrate the way in which a fund may invest, and may not be representative of a fund’s current or future investments. A fund’s investments may change at any time.

From time to time a manager, analyst or other Fidelity employee may express views regarding a particular company, security, and industry or market sector. The views expressed by any such person are the views of only that individual as of the time expressed and do not necessarily represent the views of Fidelity or any other person in the Fidelity Investments organization. Any such views are subject to change at any time, based upon markets and other conditions, and Fidelity disclaims any responsibility to update such views. These views may not be relied on as investment advice and, because investment decisions for a Fidelity Fund are based on numerous factors, may not be relied on as an indication of trading intent on behalf of any Fidelity Fund.
Certain statements in this commentary may contain forward-looking statements (“FLS”) that are predictive in nature and may include words such as “expects”, “anticipates”, “intends”, “plans”, “believes”, “estimates” and similar forward-looking expressions or negative versions thereof. FLS are based on current expectations and projections about future general economic, political and relevant market factors, such as interest and assuming no changes to applicable tax or other laws or government regulation. Expectations and projections about future events are inherently subject to, among other things, risks and uncertainties, some of which may be unforeseeable and, accordingly, may prove to be incorrect at a future date. FLS are not guarantees of future performance, and actual events could differ materially from those expressed or implied in any FLS. A number of important factors can contribute to these digressions, including, but not limited to, general economic, political and market factors in North America and internationally, interest and foreign exchange rates, global equity and capital markets, business competition and catastrophic events. You should avoid placing any undue reliance on FLS. Further, this is no specific intention of updating any FLS whether as a result of new information, future events or otherwise.
While the fund is typically managed to this constraint, the portfolio manager retains the discretion to deviate from it, and it is not included in the offering document as part of the fund’s investment strategies.
Morningstar Ratings are based on fund returns for the previous month end period and are subject to change monthly. Morningstar Star Ratings are assigned based on the ranked Morningstar Risk-Adjusted Return of each fund compared to other funds in the same CIFSC Category. Morningstar calculates ratings for the three-, five- and ten-year periods, and then the Overall Morningstar Rating is based on a weighted average of Morningstar Ratings for available time periods. Morningstar calculates ratings for categories with at least five funds. If a fund scores in the top 10% of its category, it receives five stars; if it falls in the next 22.5%, it receives four stars; the next 35% earns a fund three stars; those in the next 22.5% receive two stars; and the lowest 10% receive one star. For greater detail, see morningstar.ca

The Morningstar quartiles divide the ranked returns of all funds in a category into four groups with an equal number of funds in each (1,2,3,4). The quartile measure shows how well a fund has performed compared to all other funds in the same category over the same time period and are updated monthly. For the purpose of calculating quartile breakpoints, Morningstar assesses the return of each series of multi-series funds a fractional weight so that in aggregate a fund offered in multi-series, e.g., Series A, Series B, etc., occupies no more than one place in the category. Each series of each fund is then assessed a quartile rating depending upon where its return is situated relative to the quartile breakpoints. This accounting prevents a single portfolio in a smaller category from dominating any portion of the rating scales. The top 25% of funds (or quarter) are at the first quartile, the next 25% of funds are at the second, and the next group is of the third quartile. The bottom 25% of funds with the poorest performance is at the fourth quartile.
A fund’s volatility is determined using statistical measure called “standard deviation.” Standard deviation measures the amount of variability of returns that has historically occurred relative to the average return. The higher the standard deviation of a fund, the greater the range of returns it has experienced in the past. Other types of risk, both measurable and non-measurable, exist. In addition, just as historical performance may not be indicative of future returns, a fund’s historical volatility may not be indicative of its future volatility.
Mutual fund strategies and current holdings are subject to change.
Regulatory restrictions limit publishing to investors any performance returns for funds or portfolios with a history of less than one year.
